Developments on the Buenos Aires AM dial

Radio del Buen Ayre, Ituzaingó, Partido de Ituzaingó, is a new station on 1400 kHz, reported in June by Arnaldo Slaen, who picked up the station announcing 4661-4784 as its telephone number. Radio del Buen Ayre has been broadcasting different types of non-stop music as part of its test broadcasts.
Amplitud 770 logo    Radio 750 is a new licensed station in the Greater Buenos Aires, heard by Arnaldo Slaen on June 17, driving neighboring Radio Cooperativa to move from 740 to 770 kHz. Radio Cooperativa in turn is an unlicensed station that seems to have replaced another unlicensed station on 770, namely Amplitud 770, located in Lomas del Mirador, Partido de La Matanza. On its website Amplitud 770 says that its transmission tower was destroyed on July 2, forcing the station off the air, after which another station took over the frequency in less than two days time. The battle for 770 AM was reported by Marcelo A. Cornachioni.

Mining company sets up a SW station in Papua New Guinea

Radio Fly's parent co.Radio Fly is a new shortwave station in Papua New Guinea financed and operated by Ok Tedi Mining Limited. Radio Fly broadcasts on 3915 and 5960 kHz, which was first reported by Japanese DXers on May 18. Shortwave transmitters are located in Tabubil and Kiunga, and transmissions began in early May. Radio Fly can also be heard locally on FM 95.3 in Kiunga and 103.8 in Tabubil. The mining company operates a large copper mine in Tabubil in a mountaineous area close to the border with Indonesia. Kiunga is a nearby port town used for exporting the copper. The Ok Tedi mine is a vast operation, accounting for a third of Papua New Guinea's export earnings and almost a quarter of its GDP. However, because of diminishing deposits, the mine is scheduled to close around the end of 2013. According to the company, Radio Fly "provides a vital community information service to isolated areas of the North Fly region, parts of West Sepik, the rest of Western Province and some areas along the border of West Papua." Radio Fly broadcasts in English and Tok Pisin. The mailing address is PO Box 1, Tabubil, Western Province, Papua New Guinea. The telephone number for the station is +675 649 3924.
