Radio News in October 2003

Radio Buenas Nuevas from Argentina logged on 1610 kHz

Radio Buenas Nuevas is broadcasting from Laboulaye in Argentina on 1610 kHz mediumwave. Although the station began broadcasting already in August 2001, it hasn't been reported by DXers before now, captured by a group of Argentinian DXers on October 27. The station broadcasts Christian programming and classical music 24 hours a day. The transmitter power is 500 watts, says Pedro Saavedra of Radio Buenas Nuevas in an email to DXing.info. According to Nicolás Eramo, who first informed about the station, the studio and transmitter are located at Cosquin 40, Laboulaye, Provincia de Córdoba, Argentina, and the station can be contacted also by email. Radio Buenas Nuevas has nothing to do with a station by the same name in Guatemala, although both are Christian stations.

WRLL, licensed in Berwyn, Illinois, is the latest U.S. X-band station on the air. The station is broadcasting from a Chicago suburb and uses the slogan Real Oldies 1690, playing the music of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, WRLL was supposed to begin broadcasting on October 6, but the station was first confirmed on the air on October 7 by several DXers in Illinois and Wisconsin, and finally heard with live programming on October 8. Several email addresses are given as contact information on the station website. WRLL is owned by Clear Channel Communications.
