Voice of Liberty, Liberia testing now on 11515

Postby Jarmo Patala on Fri Apr 11, 2003 1519 UTC

There is a new christian shortwave station testing from Liberia on 11515 kHz, I heard them on 9/4 around 1530 and got an e-mail reply just today:

--------------
The 11515 was us...thanks for tuning in! We hope to have regular
programming up in the next few days. God bless!

In Christ,
Doc Burkhart, General Manager
WJIE International Shortwave
Voice Of Liberty (SW from Liberia)

The similarity between Jarmo's logging and this logging from Clandestine Radio Watch 129 cought my eye.

"Voice of Free Lebanon

Voice Liberty. On 11515 kHz. Sunday 23, 2003 at 16:20 UTC.
Reception was excellent (SINPO: 5/5). Interviews with some
lebenese taxi drivers, shows their unsatisfaction with their work
statue.
(A.Chaabane-TUN Mar 23, 2003 for CRW)"

Of course there would be no real danger mixing them up, becouse Voice of Liberty is probably going to broadcast in English and Voice of Free Lebanon in Arabic.

Voice of Free Lebanon is now scheduled 1600-1700 on 11520.
This according to CRW Intel.

On 13 May at 1645 tune in there was a station with several
transmitter cut-offs and weak modulation on 11514.4 kHz.
Later on the modulation got better at times. The program
was continuous gospel music with one announcement in
(African) accented English. Around 1800 the COJ (Chinese
Opera Jammer) started on 11520 splashing badly. Soon
after that I lost the carrier of this gospel station. Possibly
this was Voice of Liberty from Monrovia testing.

Just received some e-mails from WJIE/SW. The station in Liberia on SW (Voice of Liberty) is currently off the air on 11515. They are waiting for a sparepart to arrive. They are working on a station in Uganda "you should be able to hear well", so assume the ex-FEBA transmitter from Seychelles will operate from Uganda (as predicted in DXLD lately). More about this and some photos of Voice of Liberty/Liberia will follow soon here at DXing.info

Latest info on this station received 7/7:

Our Church has started two Radio stations in Monrovia
Liberia. We have an FM that reaches Monrovia and a shortwave
that reaches the Muslim areas of Northern Africa. We have
remained on the air during this war. We have been the
only ones offering hope to these people but now we need
your help. We need your prayers and we need Pastors and
bible teachers to do radio programs and we need your support.
Please email me morgan@wjie.org and I will send you photos
and send me your fax number and I will fax you letters from Liberia.
In Christ

On 2 Feb at 1545 tune in heard Voice of Liberty in Monrovia
on 11514.4 with fair signal. Later the reception improved and it
was audible past 1800, but their audio was distorted at times.
Sounds like they announce "LCBN Radio" but use also "Voice
of Liberty" name. Their FM frequency is 102.3 and also shortwave
was mentioned. Contact info in Monrovia was also given, but I
still have to confirm it to ensure correct information in the web :)

Yesterday I received a jpg e-mail QSL from Voice of Liberty,
Monrovia, Liberia 11514.4 kHz. It was sent by Morgan Freemen
at WJIE (morgan @ wjie.org). The transmitter was formely used
by High Adventure in "Free Lebanon" and I actually have QSL-cards
also from that station (both transmitter sites) from 1981 and 1990.
While talking with Morgan, I got impression that he wants to
handle the reception reports of this Liberian station and wishes
the staff in Liberia not to be bothered with reports. I haven't heard
them for last few days on/around 11515, so maybe there are again
transmitter problems.
