ABC Perth on 7875 USB

Postby Jari Savolainen on Fri Sep 23, 2005 0805 UTC

David Hodgson logged in DXLD some days ago ABC Western Australia relay on 7875U. I managed to hear the same station on 22 Sep at 1815 and onwards with strong signal. ABC Perth 720 ID's and I guess the program presenter was Greg Hayes. Any ideas who operates this transmitter?

Coming in with good reception quality. Have listened to the station for a few hours now. Programming follows the schedule at http://www.abc.net.au/perth/schedule.htm, although hosts of the shows don't always match. Identifies as "720 ABC Perth and local radio WA". Still no idea of the transmitter location and purpose.

Hi all ...

As I remember, the ADF used some feeds on SSB some years ago for the forces overseas. May have been during the first Gulf war. As an aside, I noted a relay of ABC programming about a week ago on approximately 15060 using SSB. Just heard it in passing and thought at the time that this was the situation once again. Can't make any guesses as to the transmitter site though.

Regards, John Schache.

Hi,

At the moment, Sep. 27 at 1909 UTC, I am not hearing ABC on 7875.05 USB. Other nights they came in pretty loud here in the Netherlands.
Propagation issue, or is this transmitter off the air?

Receiver: Icom IC-R75;

They may have changed to another frequency, or halted shortwave broadcasts altogether for the moment.

BTW, I got a confirmation from the Department of Defence that the broadcasts on 7875 kHz USB did indeed originate from Exmouth, Western Australia. You can read the full story at the News page of DXing.info.
