Voice of Han BC launch SW service to China

Postby Miller Liu on Fri Mar 12, 2004 1251 UTC

You can hear Mainland service of Voice of Han BC at 9745kHz. The program is parellel to 981, 711, 1431. QTH Kuanyin, 40km west of Taipei. 2 SW small curtain type antenna was installed. Maybe we can find another freq some day. Due to adjancent channel interference, I have to listen 9745 in USB, bandwidth 1.5kHz at 1200UTC. 0655 signon and 0105 singoff.
Receiver: AOR AR7030plus, ICOM IC-R8500
Antenna: RF SYSTEM 40ft longwire, 100m random loop.

Thanks to the above tip I tuned into a clear 9745 at 1920 UTC
this evening (Sun 14 Mar) and heard a monologue in Chinese then song which I confirmed was "Voice of Han" by checking the Mainland Service online audio at http://www.voh.com.tw/english/top-e.html (though there is a time delay).
Unfortunately stronger CRI in Esperanto signed-on on 9745 at 1930 but Voice of Han was still audible underneath CRI. VOH much weaker but in clear after CRI sign-off at 2027.

(Presume this is the station on page 367 of WRTH 2004 as MW channels etc match, though WRTH calls it Voice of Kuanghua?)

When did it start on shortwave and what power is its transmitter??

Voice of Kuanghua was meraged into Voice of Han BC due to budget cut. Both are managed by Department of Defense. The callsing implies as "Han shen guan bo tien tai, Guan hua zhi shen"(Voice of Han, Voice of Kuanghua). Shortwave service was monitored since the beginning of March. Power output unknown. BTW, 801, 846, 711, 981, 1431 are current MW freqs. 1251, 1053 ceased. Most trasmission is from Kuanyin, 1431 might be from Hsinfong, Hsinchu County.

Are the sign-on and sign-off times (0655-0105) you mention Miller, UTC or local Taiwan time? If they are local Taiwan time I am hearing Voice of Han after its scheduled sign-off time? On Sunday 14 Mar @ 1920 UTC (= 0320 Taiwan time) and again this evening it is clear here at 1845 UTC (= 0245 Taiwan time) on 9745 both after the 0105 sign-off time you mention and the WRTH 2004 lists.
Also do you know the postal address for this station after the merger you mentioned.
Thanks for your help!

Voice of Han BC

Postby Matti Ponkamo on Wed Mar 17, 2004 1226 UTC

This is most porpably the Chinese UNID I heard yesterday (March 16, from UTC 1920 on), 9745kHz, only on USB. Lots of splatter from +/- 5kHz, hardly audible, SIO=112, chinese talk by a male distinguished, though. At about 1928 CRI put the carrier on and started in Esperanto, covering the VoHan BC totally with a broad bandwidth. I could get no ID from VoHan BC, but I assume this is it.

Voice of Han BC - not heard

Postby Matti Ponkamo on Wed Mar 24, 2004 0639 UTC

Yesterday (March 23 2004, at about 1900 UTC), no sign of Voice of Han, only Bahrain in Arabic on USB was heard before CRI started its Esperanto (carrier on at about 1927 UTC). Also strong splatter from +5kHz QRM'd.
It sounds like R.Bahrain has a "clear" carrier with its USB transmission, although the carrier is stated to be -6dB. I could not distinguish a Voice of Han carrier on March 16th. It is also possible, that yet another carrier (before CRI's) was present.
If these SSB transmissions are to be more popular, I have to get myself a "tighter" filter to avoid splatter from AM stations.

Another freq 6105kHz is finally found. It's the same as freq list in http://www.dgt.gov.tw/English/foreigner/AM.xls. Hope you can avoid adjacent channel interference !

Postby Jan Edh on Wed May 05, 2004 0701 UTC

Hello,
does anyone know the correct mailing address to the Voice of Han in Tapei?
My letter (sent to The Voice of Han Broadcasting Station, 5 F, No 3, Hsin-Yi Road, Section 1, Taipei as suggested in the WRTH) was returned to me undelivered and stamped ”Unknown”.
Hoping for your kind help.

There's 40sec lag between online listening and actual transmission. Of course actual transmission is faster.

Hi Miller Liu.
I've seen many postings on various DX-bulletins that the letters mailed to Hsin-Yi Road address are bouncing back undelivered. I haven't seen any reports that the e-mail to the station is working. Maybe you, as a DX-specialist and Taiwan resident could check the correct contact addresses and if the station is actually interested at all of the reception reports from far-away countries.

I'd contact with staff of Voice of Han BC this morning. Postal address is also P.O. Box 1700, Taipei. BTW, Voice of Kuanghua is still in testing period, QSL card will deliver later while testing completed. E-mail:voh_radio@sinamail.com still works, they collect many reception report from overseas. Hope this helpful!
